The Process of People……..What We Focus On

August 31st, 2010

When I first started working with people I thought it was all about beating them to the punch, or being funny, I felt that what I had to say was more important; then I grew up and realized that it’s all about them, the student, the buyer, the business owner and just about anyone else in the room.  Just not me, because when someone calls you to ask you some questions about what you can offer them, it’s important to listen, I can’t stress that enough.  Some of the best representatives are the best listeners I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting and when I met people for the first time I ask them about why are they making the decisions that they’re about to make?

What prompted this move in another direction?  What can I do to help them succeed in this venture and how can we get there together and create a vapor trail of success for everyone to follow?  These are real questions; you’re not going to find the answer to these questions inside of your questionnaire, the only way you’ll be able to find the answer to these questions is by listening to the client and finding ways to truly help them find success with their venture.

It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about students, business owners and even mothers and fathers everyone wants to be heard and understood and if you can prove to the client that you understand them and their problems they will give you a chance to find the solution because you identified what they wanted/needed and you’re willing to help by implementing a process of success with each and every sales representative within the company.

I feel that people are the most interesting when they’re thinking about what they want vs. what they need, you see them processing every single thought, it almost like they have to ask themselves several times if this is what they want to do, and you know what; that’s the best part.  The last thing anyone should be worried about is someone thinking their way through the process, if the client isn’t thinking and their making a gut decision then at that point I slow the process down because people don’t like to feel rushed or confused about anything their purchasing, especially if it’s concerning their business, their family or their future.

Understanding Students………

August 26th, 2010

Students come in all shapes and sizes, ready, negative, positive, emotional, stable and the list goes on and on.  What it comes down to is “customer service” regardless of the institution, proprietary or traditional.  Students know when they’re receiving great “customer service” and the standards will continue to increase concerning this area of improvement within education.  Everyone has standards, and to meet the need of every student on the campus is what the staff is there for, no other reason.  When you think about how many students there will be in the near future the numbers are staggering, and the potential to increase those numbers by providing quality facilities, educated instructors and a caring and charismatic staff will even further that potential.

When the interview starts between an admissions representative & the potential student it takes time to understand where the student is coming from, and focusing on the goals, thoughts and career path of the student is the focal point of this session.  It’s all about building a relationship with the student, and if you take out the word “sell” and replace it with “help” you’ll be amazed at the improvement of your admissions process.

When you consider that everyone in America is going through changes it becomes clear that how we decide to treat people is going to mean everything if you truly want to help them succeed.  Being that I’m a lifetime student I understand what other students are going through, it’s important to graduate with a degree that you’re comfortable with, it’s not about what other people think; if you’re happy with the education you received that’s all that matters.

You have different types of educational opportunities, proprietary, traditional, community colleges, Seminary School and many more, in the end we need every single graduate from every single subject to keep the balance in the world, and everyone is need.  Every time I meet someone new I’m always looking for that amazing story in their life because everyone has something to say and it takes time to understand where people are coming from and to “absorb” their history.

Let me change your life……..enjoy the moment.

June 23rd, 2010

Hello my name is Michael J Curtis, I believe in people and the opportunities that life can offer.  Many times we wait for things to happen to us instead of making things happen and the best scenarios are the ones we dictate to ourselves and to the people we love.  Life is all about paying it forward, finding something in life to help your current situation and the situations of others, many times people don’t know who to talk to and why they have the opportunities that they have in their life.

That’s where the “Art of Savoration” comes in, people need to learn to savor the moment, take advantage of the momentum that life is offering you, once you learn how to do that you’ll have the ability to take that energy and give it to others so they can become successful in anything that they do.

I’ve worked within education for five years, first as a “Tutor”, and then I worked with the “Grade Grievance Committee” to understand the student and the teacher.  I was then promoted to “Admissions Representative”, I placed 85% of my students in class and enjoyed my work very much.  I was then promoted to “Director of Admissions where I doubled the enrollment numbers through my department, I also helped two my of employees receive promotions, and recently I’ve been promoted to “Associate Campus Director”, I love students and I love to help people discover who they are and what they want out of life.

It all starts with believing in the people that you work with, there has to be a common bond between all employees who want the same things out of life, career and family.  People need to come together to complete one mission and one goal to achieve success when it comes to enlightening people about their education.

What I’ve done is build a library of content that focuses on how to treat the student better in every aspect of the process enrolling students in school.  Everybody needs a boost when it comes to helping people find what their looking for, and sometimes you can apply the information right away so the student can feel the positivity from the “Admissions Representative” at that moment to make the right decision to change their life and shift their energy in the right direction.

My focus is on the student, I want to give the “Admission Representative” the right tools to help them succeed in helping the student, and my number one focus is to make the information readily available to the “Admissions Representative” so they can help the student at any given time or day of the week.

Thank you for your time and patience.
